Ending an Endless War?

You’ve probably heard that Iran is the modern name for ancient Persia. You may have heard that the start of this battle with Iran coincided remarkably with Purim which is when the Jewish people fought against Haman and all the Jew-haters of the Persian empire.

Maybe you’ve also heard that Iran is a Shiite Muslim nation led by a theocracy which implements Sharia law and indiscriminately kills citizens who disobey. But did you know that the underground church in Iran is one of the fastest growing and largest communities of believers in the world! Some reports say there are 100,000 distinct house churches. That means there could be around a million Iranian believers risking their lives to live for Yeshua!

As Esther risked her life, they risk theirs. As Esther told Mordechai to ask all the Jews to pray for her, we ask you to pray for the Iranian Christians! May they find grace beyond imagination to live out their faith in boldness.

To some extent, that war with Haman never ended, but continued from generation to generation (Exodus 17:16). It flared up 2,500 years ago with Esther. It has flared up at other times like the 1979 Islamic revolution. It flared up through Iranian proxy regimes like Hezbollah or the Yemenite Houthis.

Might it be that we are nearing the era of the Isaiah 19 prophecies which call for a highway between Egypt, Israel, and… Iran? Could it be that God is bringing some form of an end to what seems like an endless war?

In that day there will be a highway from Egypt to Assyria, and the Assyrian will come into Egypt and the Egyptian into Assyria, and the Egyptians will serve with the Assyrians. In that day Israel will be one of three with Egypt and Assyria – a blessing in the midst of the land, whom the Lord of hosts shall bless, saying, ‘Blessed is Egypt My people, and Assyria the work of My hands, and Israel My inheritance.’” (Isaiah 19:23-24)

Prayer Requests! (Please take a moment to pray.)

  • Pray for the communities which have been in and out of bomb shelters. Especially for those who are alone and without family nearby, and for children who suffer the most uncertainty and lack of stability.

  • Pray for all who have the general heavy feel that accompanies war. The heavenlies are also at war. The physical reflects the spiritual… and we feel that.

  • Pray for those serving in the IDF/reserves and their families.

  • Pray for several congregants who recently lost jobs. The war is already hitting the congregation hard in the area of employment.
