Dear Tikkun Global Family:

We need prayers immediately. Wildfires are raging across the Jerusalem Hills area. This is particularly sad as families across the land are preparing to mourn the loss of fallen soldiers on Yom HaZikaron (Israel Memorial Day).

Please pray for:

• Fires to be contained and stopped by local firefighters

• People to be safe, and move away from the fire zones

• Winds to stop spreading the fires

🔥 Current Impact and Response

Evacuations and Affected Areas:

  • Communities evacuated include Neve Shalom, Beko’a, Ta’oz, Nachshon, Mesilat Zion, and the Latrun memorial site, where Independence Day ceremonies were interrupted.

Injuries and Health Services:

  • At least 12 people have been reported injured, including two infants.  Hospitals, such as Hadassah Ein Kerem, are on high alert to treat victims suffering from burns and smoke inhalation.

Infrastructure Disruptions:

  • Major highways, including Route 1 (Jerusalem–Tel Aviv) and Route 3, have been closed due to the fires.  Motorists were seen abandoning vehicles as flames approached.

Firefighting Efforts:

  • Over 100 firefighting teams and 12 aircraft are actively battling the blazes.  The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have been deployed to assist in containment efforts.

International Assistance:

  • Israel has requested firefighting support from Greece, Croatia, Italy, and Cyprus to help combat the spreading wildfires.

Event Cancellations:

  • The Independence Day torch-lighting ceremony in Jerusalem has been canceled due to safety concerns.

🔍 Ongoing Situation

The fires continue to pose a significant threat to both natural landscapes and populated areas. High temperatures and strong winds are exacerbating the situation, making containment efforts challenging. Authorities remain on high alert, and further evacuations may be necessary as conditions evolve.
