Tikkun Global Jerusalem, Israel The Islamic calendar and the Jewish calendar are based on lunar cycle. The difference is that the Jewish calendar adjusts back to the solar cycle through a leap year every few years. The Islamic calendar continues just monthly. Therefore, from time to time the calendars overlap. This year there is an overlap between the Ramadan month (fasting and prayer) and the month of Adar (fast and feast of Esther-Purim). Ramadan and Adar occur at the same
